The Morning: Silence and Speed in Portofino

The morning mist was still clinging to the colorful, pastel façades of Portofino when we raised the sails on WONDERFUL, our 2023 Gunboat 68. While the heavy motor yachts were still trapped at anchor, waiting for the world to wake up, we were already slicing through the glassy surface of the Ligurian Sea.

There is a specific, almost spiritual silence to high-speed sailing that you simply cannot find on a motor yacht. There is no vibration, no engine roar—just the raw rush of the wind through the rigging and the rhythmic hum of the carbon fiber hull as it carves through the Mediterranean blue at a steady 18 to 20 knots.

The Afternoon: Corsica on the Horizon

By mid-afternoon, the world felt smaller, yet more majestic. Thanks to the racing pedigree of this high-performance catamaran, the rugged, granite peaks of Corsica began to rise from the horizon much sooner than expected.

This is the true beauty of a Mediterranean Yacht Charter with Riviera Boat: distances shrink when you have the right technology under your feet. While a standard vessel might take two days for this crossing, the Gunboat 68 transforms the journey into a thrilling, one-day offshore sprint, allowing you more time to enjoy the destination.

The Evening: Arrival in the Emerald Coast

As the sun dipped low, painting the sky in shades of violet and gold, we pulled into the protected, turquoise lagoons of the La Maddalena Archipelago.

The Italian Riviera was now a beautiful memory, replaced by the wild, aromatic heart of Sardinia. We dropped anchor just in time for a starlit dinner on the aft deck, the scent of wild myrtle blowing from the shore, and the exclusive lights of Porto Cervo twinkling in the distance.
